King Of The North
(CBS/Daniel Sieberg) Hard to believe it"s been exactly a year since I traveled to the Arctic with our CBS crew - myself, producer Chloe Arensberg and cameraman Mark LaGanga. For those who remember our blog postings, you might also recall another passenger onboard that journey: my father, Doug. To mark the one-year anniversary, I"m posting a "video postcard" that encompasses both our time onboard the ship and some of my father"s history in the Arctic.
Good Enough To Eat
(CBS)Science research can really build an appetite. At least that's partly the motivation behind "The Hungry Scientist's Handbook," published by Harper Collins in September.
Bill Bows Out
After a week of taping the show I co-host for Discovery's Planet Green network (G Word, with me and SuChin Pak) I'm back in action here at CBS. But as I return to one job, Microsoft's co-founder Bill Gates is leaving his. Well, sort of. Friday is his last day as chief software architect, but he'll still remain chairman of the board and the company's largest shareholder. Plus, I'm sure he'll keep Steve Ballmer (Microsoft CEO) on speed dial.
Tiny Town Fights For Its Domain
"Dot.Com" is a charmingly funny and beautiful firmed comedy about a small village in Portugal whose residents are being threatened with an $800,000 lawsuit because the town"s Web site happens to have the same name as a trademarked brand of mineral water.
Wrapping Up, Heading Out (Temporarily!)
What a week! Between iPhone 3G in San Francisco and the Webby Awards here in New York there was a lot going on. (By the way, Stephen Colbert's five-word acceptance speech managed to be both funny and reflect the current narcissism often associated with the Web and social networking: "Me, me, me, me, me.")
Live From San Francisco
(CBS/Larry Magid)Daniel Sieberg blogs live from Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco, June 9, 2008.
A Meter On Your Internet Service?
Just as Internet video is starting to take off, one of the nation"s largest broadband providers is experimenting with a pricing plan that could make it very expensive.

Last week Time Warner Cable started testing a $29.99 a month plan in Beaumont, Texas that gives users only 5 gigabytes of data to download or upload. Users who pay $54.90 a month have their service capped at 40 gigabytes.
iPhone 2.0, Firefox 3.0, Webbys 12.0
I can't believe it's been nearly a year since people lined up around the country for the original iPhone. Of course, in the end it made no difference whether you spent a week without a shower sleeping on a lawnchair on 5th Avenue or dropped by an Apple store three hours after the official launch -- everyone who wanted one managed to buy one. And now comes the expectation that CEO Steve Jobs will use his appearance at the Apple Worldwide Developers' Conference on Monday in San Francisco to unveil the next generation.
Online Gossip: Out Of Control Or Reflection Of Real Life?
Video: The Modern Rumor MillPssssst -- a quick posting today to mention a story I'm finishing for tonight's Evening News with Katie Couric. It's all about gossip. And that's no rumor. It's primarily about sites that cater to college students like Juicycampus.com and JHUConfessions.com. The operator of Juicycampus (2005 Duke grad Matt Ivester) wouldn't speak to us despite repeated attempts to get him on camera. But the founder of JHUConfessions, which focuses on Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, did speak to us.
Space Cadet Reporting For Duty
(Steve Boxall / Zero G)It's the end of the week and I'm feeling a little space-y. But can you blame me? It started with experiencing zero gravity, was followed up with watching the Phoenix Mars Lander touch down on the Red Planet, and this weekend Discovery is scheduled to head to the international space station, in part to deliver some critical components: a toilet repair kit.
